commentary['August Acorn']="When people ask what I'm doing these days I have been saying: "I'm painting a tree on a horse!" Long before Potomac Artists In Touch advanced the public art project known as Ponymania, I fell in love with a tree.
The particular tree is known as the Travillah Oak. It lives at Travillah Road and Glen Road in the Potomac Oak Shopping Center. Though this oak tree has been living here in Potomac for over two hundred years, I have only known it for 41 years.
I began to paint the horse with the idea to see the tree in all four seasons. Painting leaves for me is a great adventure, so..., I tackled what I saw as the hard part first; I began with Winter. As I began I realized I wanted to see the whole tree in each season; hence, the vignettes. I also determined that I wanted a slow progression of the seasons with Autumn at the head and Spring at the tail.
Finally, the vision of the tree is always vested in the acorn; so, the eyes of the horse became acorns and its name became 'August Acorn'.";
commentary['Gweneviere']=""Gweneviere the Gardening Girl" was enthusiastically painted by our local artist Claire Howard. Gweneviere's Ruby Slippers have given her the confidence to make her dreams come true. She is a big fan of Zsa Zsa on Green Acres and insists on wearing her pearls and make-up while working in her garden. Her flowers and vegetables are growing abundantly this summer.
Claire Howard has been painting and designing homes in the Washington area for over twenty five years. Her work may best be described as brightly impressionistic, rich in texture and always creative. Her past achievements include "Best in Show" and "Reserve Champion" at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. Her work has appeared in major periodicals and she has participated in many local fundraisers.
She and her husband Frank currently reside on a small farm in Poolesville, MD. where they are building farm tables and cottage furniture from century old barnwood. You can also see more of Claire's work at "Mostly Monograms" in Bethany Beach, Delaware.
For custom commissions contact Claire at 301-605-3902.";
commentary['Show Horse']="Show Horse was inspired by his sponsor's interest in the arts, and particularly in community theatre in Potomac. The sponsor, Ellie Pisarra Cain is a founder and participant in Potomac Theatre Company, and an enthusiastic spectator and booster of the artist's daughter's dramatic writing. The artist created this design to celebrate the creativity of the performing arts and as a tribute to the local theatre company.
Characters depicted on the horse refer to shows produced by Potomac Theatre Company, as well as other popular Broadway musicals. Look for the artist's signature, Nancy Nesvet hidden somewhere on the horse.
Nancy Nesvet MFA is an artist who both photographs and paints and who has exhibited widely from Maine to Maryland. She works in both a figurative and landscape tradition, using oils.
She has been reviewed in the Georgetowner and Big, Red and Shiny with high praise. She can be reached at 1-301-320-1861.";
commentary['Majestic Treasures']=""Majestic Treasures" is labor of love and globally inspired work that reflects the artist's life long passion of international culture and the diversity and divine beauty of our world. Join her as she takes you on a journey of just some of our world's most treasured man made and natural wonders.
Discover the elegance of architectural masterpieces from across the globe such as the romantic Taj Mahal (the story behind this wonder has fascinated the artist since childhood) and Eiffel Tower or the Washington Monument and take a journey through alluring interpretations of door ways of castles and majestic buildings of our present and our past. Rejoice in the artistic designs influenced by exotic fabrics from her home country India and the Far East and the wonderful intricate details of centuries old tile work one might find in treasured buildings in the majestic Middle East. Take a moment and reflect on the lovely landscape of dome topped homes of Tunisia and Africa, the grandeur of the National Cathedral and the shimmer of rare jewels and Faberge egg inspired motifs.
Even Nature's own beautiful creations are celebrated with the inclusion of a delightful butterfly, another childhood fascination, no two were ever the same, but each a magical miracle of awe inspiring winged design. And of course, the most majestic universal symbol, that of freedom, our beloved Statue of Liberty as she stands proud among a flutter of another of nature's gifts, flowers with their innate power to soothe and beautify our surroundings. You'll also see repeated on Majestic Treasures the artist's own interpretation of the sun, the ultimate source of life's energy. Her trademark symbol, "Lotus of Life" has an embryonic shaped center representing our birth and the inner golden circle which captures our individual spirits. The seven lotus leaves represent the seven days of the week and our journey through our lives. More than just a "sun" this symbol evokes and celebrates life in all of its majestic treasured beauty.
Kaushika enjoys creating beautiful treasures, paintings, corporate art, children's furnishings, interior dˇcor pieces and keepsakes through her artwork and the globally inspired Pony is reflective of the international flair of her work. She has exhibited in both solo and group juried and non-juried shows nationally and her pieces can be found in various boutiques & local shows this fall or by commission. Visit www.KaleidoscopeCollection.com , where she showcases a few of her art and design creations for you, your home, your office and gift giving needs. She's also a strategy and branding expert and applies her talent to Ponymania and Potomac Artist In Touch website and leading the community centric vision for the group and the communications, concepts, programming and PR for this public arts initiative. Contact Kaushika at 1-301-346-2766 or 1-301-767-7944 for art, design & branding services that like a Kaleidoscope are always evolving, delightfully unexpected and truly engaging.";
commentary['Dream of Ponies']="I painted my pony in my backyard that leads to the street. While painting, many dog-walkers would stop by and comment. For a month, children and adults alike where astounded by seeing the brightly colored horse.
My personal goal for this project is to have residents appreciate art. To get their attention, I chose strong and brilliant colors. The pattern, inspired by Escher's art, is simple yet irresistible.
My whimsical and irresistible horse offers an art appreciation which becomes an everyday pleasure. Residents can stand for a moment enjoying the unexpected colorful creation. It is a great opportunity to provide the public with an art experience and a enrichment for the area. It was fun to paint it and hopefully a delight for pony lovers big and small.";
commentary['Potomac']=""I am 'Potomac'". The students and children of the Village of Potomac and Potomac area schools created me with the help of their teachers, parents and friends. The work of the students and children was amazing, I was inspired by their colorful imagination, as diverse as night and day as they dared to dream as big as the sky.
Three of the Potomac Artists In Touch artists took this collection of artwork and applied it to me in such a beautiful way, it took my breath away. I am so proud to share their talents with you.
It has been a whirlwind year for me. It started in October 2004 when I came to town and was welcomed by the over 600 talented young student artists from 17 Potomac area schools through their creative ideas and designs on a paper template of me! Yes me. "Potomac". I was so thrilled I just had to ask 9 other ponies from my barn to join me in the Ponymania 2005, Ponies on Parade in Potomac project that is now on display. I want to invite all of you to join me in our upcoming Pony Hunt and Meet the Artists weekend that I'm planning with my friends at PAinT and all the artists of Ponymania on September 17th and 18th from 12-3pm. See the website for details: www.potomacartistsintouch.com. Our display will be out till November and then off to the Live Auction and Gala to be held on November 19th.";
